ABOUT us

In 2020, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, two remarkable individuals named Darren and Toby undertook a transformative endeavour in the heart of Highfields. They converted a neglected wasteland into a breath taking community garden. This green oasis now stands as a testament to their dedication and vision. The garden, lovingly tended by volunteers, welcomes everyone from the community. It’s not just a place to admire the vibrant blooms and lush foliage; it’s a space where neighbours gather, share stories, and lend a hand. Whether harvesting fresh produce, planting seeds, or simply finding solace amidst nature, Darren and Toby’s creation has become a cherished hub for all. Their legacy lives on, reminding us that even in challenging times, beauty can blossom from barren soil

get involved

Volunteering at the community garden is a wonderful way to contribute to this thriving green space and connect with fellow community members. Here’s how you can get involved:

  1. Reach Out: Contact the organizers of the community garden. You can inquire about volunteering opportunities, upcoming events, and any specific needs they might have.

  2. Attend Workdays: Many community gardens host regular workdays. These are designated times when volunteers come together to plant, weed, water, and maintain the garden. Join these workdays to lend a hand.

  3. Skills and Interests: Consider your skills and interests. Are you passionate about gardening, landscaping, or organizing events? Let the organizers know how you’d like to contribute.

  4. Planting and Harvesting: Participate in planting new seeds, bulbs, or young plants. When it’s time for harvest, help gather fresh produce for the community.

  5. Community Events: Community gardens often organize events like workshops, educational sessions, or social gatherings. Attend these events and share your knowledge or simply enjoy the camaraderie.

  6. Spread the Word: Tell your friends, family, and neighbours about the community garden. Encourage others to join and participate.

Remember, community gardens thrive because of the collective effort of passionate individuals like you. By volunteering, you’re not only nurturing plants but also fostering a sense of belonging and well-being for everyone in Highfields. 🌱🌼🌿
